Built in 1920, the Abandoned All Boys Military School was originally constructed to be a Southern California Athletic and Country Club. Unfortunately, the club never Riverside Military Academy for Boys opened due to financial troubles and laid vacant for a short time. After some time, the property was turned into a luxury resort for Old Hollywood’s Elite, who would fly in on their seaplanes to the lake nearby.  Upon closing it became an elite military academy.

In 1933, the military school for boys in grades 1-12 opened. It averaged 150 to 200 students until it closed in 1977.  Sons of wealthy parents, including foreign dictators, attended the school, as did the son of actor Bela Lugosi, who played Count Dracula€ on Broadway.

Originally designed to contain 300 sleeping rooms, it was reduced to 40 rooms with the finest appointments money could buy. Although the facilities were completed, the Country Club never opened due to financial problems and the coming Depression. Nine years later, it was purchased by Major Glen Conklin and Captain P.A. Jones and eventually given what name as it is known by today?

There have been many paranormal investigators that have gone here and done their investigations. Here is what one of them had to say:

“I made a quick trip to the building, after getting permission from the grounds keepers to investigate the property. I quickly sat out with all my gadgets that are required to contact the spirits. Upon entering the building we made it a point to get ourselves familiar with the grounds, and let me say this place is adventurous to a paranormal team.

I started filming in night vision and doing some evp work. I heard a very clear voice of a man what sounded like kicking rocks and mumbling. But when we charged the sound we found nothing, in the basement I was pulled back while walking than my arm was grabbed, and one of the cameras I had recording mysteriously fell off the shelve.

Some of the evps revealed a woman communication with me, when I said “You don’t have to be afraid of me.” The female spirit replied ” I know .” On the second part of my investigation I was in a large room where there were two big fireplaces on either side of the room. I heard a large bang on one of the boarded up doors, and I began feeling very light headed almost nauseous.”

Personal Experience: Well this spot instantly goes down as one of my top adventures of all time. We explored this a week or so after Halloween, after we had really immersed ourselves in the Halloween spirit playing horror video
games and watching a ton of horror movies. It couldn’t have been better timing to really screw with our psyche as the setting of this place looks like the beginning of a true horror story. Riverside Military Academy for Boys

This spot is a literal palace with beautiful remnants still remaining so keep your eyes peeled! We went in the day and it’s still almost pitch black in many of the locations so make sure to bring a flashlight.

One floor is almost completely dedicated to the dorm rooms. We found kitchens and freezers, offices, the super-creepy basement, an attic that we did not attempt to go in because it is NOT safe, the mess hall and so much more.

Despite the obvious destruction from God knows what, there was very little graffiti or litter which is exactly how the place should remain. Help preserve this beautiful, historical spot as it is brimming with stories.

This room was my favorite.  It appears to have been an office and is filled head to toe with vintage magazine pages:

My father attended this school and graduated as the Major for the entire school. I have photos of better days there.

You mentioned getting permission from the property managers. How could I do that? I want to take professional photos with my husband in a place like this :)
