From their website:

Our two-acre Preview Garden is a great place to see the exquisite plant life of the five major mediterranean climate zones. Our greenhouse and nursery grow plants for the Garden, San Luis Obispo County Parks, and for sale to visitors. Reflect under a tranquil oak tree in the Life Celebration Garden, then continue past the Firesafe Demonstration Garden (in progress) and visit Eve’s Garden Shop and Nursery. And don’t forget to take a stroll past the Oak Glen Pavilion to our Children’s Garden.

Our gardens are open daily during daylight hours; admission is free. The lower pathways are composed of decomposed granite and are designed to be ADA compliant. Some of the upper pathways are not.

A fee is charged by San Luis Obispo County Parks for parking in El Chorro Regional Park April through September on weekends and holidays.

Personal Experience: Every year when I head up to Big Sur on highway 1, I pass signs for San Luis Obispo’s Botanical Garden and every year we pass by it without visiting. Finally, I added it into our itinerary so we would have no choice BUT to stop by!

A huge purpose I feel this garden serves is as a little break from the road if you are doing a long road trip. It’s nothing *too* spectacular, but it is special and most importantly, free!

We spotted this adorable quail!

Awwww…..a dust bath!
