The Ranch at Laguna Beach

Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden California follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!

About The Ranch at Laguna Beach

The Ranch at Laguna Beach

The history of The Ranch at Laguna Beach is as rich as its natural surroundings. Originally established in 1871 as a homestead, the property has evolved through various stages, reflecting the spirit of its location in Laguna Canyon.

Over the decades, it has been a working ranch, a retreat for Hollywood stars during the Golden Age of cinema, and a beloved local landmark. In 2013, the property underwent a significant transformation to become The Ranch at Laguna Beach, blending its storied past with modern amenities and a commitment to sustainability.

Today, this Four Diamond rated resort stands as a premier resort that honors its heritage while offering guests a unique blend of luxury, relaxation, and natural beauty. It continues to be a cherished destination, inviting visitors to experience the charm and history of this iconic Southern California locale.

Make sure to visit Treasure Island Beach  nearby while staying at The Ranch!

Their saline pool is heated year-round and features a soothing hot tub and palapa bar, open during peak season. Complimentary sunscreen and towel service is also available. The pool is open daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The pool bar and pool services are available for hotel guests only and is open seasonally.

Whether enjoying a leisurely breakfast with views of the golf course, savoring a farm-to-table lunch on the patio, or indulging in a sumptuous dinner at Harvest Restaurant, every meal is a journey of taste and quality.

The ambiance is inviting and relaxed, perfect for both casual gatherings and special occasions. The menu showcases dishes that highlight the bounty of Southern California, with an emphasis on freshness and sustainability.

They have two restaurants on site: Harvest, which is a formal sit-down with servers that take care of you. This is where I ate both dinner and breakfast.

The other is The Porch which offers an alfresco-all-the-time atmosphere with warm hospitality, fresh-baked pastries, espresso creations, and craft cocktails shared around crackling firepits with live music daily.

Golf

Golfing at The Ranch at Laguna Beach offers a scenic and challenging experience amidst the stunning backdrop of Laguna Canyon.

The nine-hole golf course, originally designed in the 1950s and revamped in recent years, features meticulously maintained greens and fairways that blend harmoniously with the natural landscape.

I don’t even golf but looking at the beauty of this golf course made me want to try!

Players can enjoy panoramic views of the canyon and nearby Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park while navigating the course’s strategic layout. Whether a novice or seasoned golfer, the tranquil atmosphere and gorgeous natural setting make golfing am enjoyable activity.

Farm Tour

The farm at The Ranch at Laguna Beach serves as a vibrant hub for sustainable agriculture and culinary innovation. I was told approximately 20% of the food grown here is used in their restaurants!

Guests can explore the farm through guided tours, gaining insight into the farm-to-table philosophy that defines the dining experience at The Ranch.

Sustainability

The Ranch at Laguna Beach is committed to integrating sustainable practices into every facet of its operations, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Their approach includes utilizing solar energy to power operations, reducing carbon emissions significantly. They prioritize water conservation through efficient irrigation systems and native landscaping, preserving local biodiversity.

They source locally-grown produce for its restaurants, supporting the community and reducing transportation-related carbon footprints. Waste reduction initiatives are also central, with recycling programs and composting efforts in place.

Through these comprehensive sustainability methods, they not only preserves the natural beauty of its surroundings but also sets a standard for eco-friendly hospitality in Southern California.

Personal Experience

All I can say is WOW.  I visited this property not knowing too much about it.  Once I arrived one of the first things I saw was the creek which really should be called a river because it was definitely as wide and flowing as hard as a river.

The location and its surroundings are breath-taking.  The hillsides are scattered with mysterious caves which had my imagination going wild with what they looked like inside.

The property is both laid-back and sophisticated.  The customer service is top-notch and extremely helpful. The food was AMAZING.  Highly recommend the stuffed squash blossoms and dark chocolate crème brûlée.  Yum!

This is also right across the street from Treasure Island Beach and a stone’s throw from the Pirate Tower.

If this is something you can afford I highly recommend booking a night (or more) here. So worth it!
